Usually I have no problem searching for mood board Monday inspo, but today I was having struggling. So, where do we go to search? Pinterest is definitely a go-to, but it wasn’t working today. Domino Mag? Lonny? Check, and check, but we weren’t vibin’ on that either. Until I finally went to Elle Decor (and we were about to give up the search), and found…
Yep, that’s right. Mid-Century Modern is NOT the most searched for design. It’s a little hard to believe that, but I read on, and discovered that:
VICTORIAN
was the winner.
What? That’s a bit…unexpected. What does that mean? Well, wrap around porches, stained glass, furniture with a bit of drama and warm woods. Scrolls, ball and claw foot, ogee edges, bombé style dressers, yes to all of that. We also saw this cool map of the top searches for design styles…what’s your state’s top design search?
And you know what? We are sooo on trend with our new client, without even knowing it. The biggest design challenge we see is how to make Victorian furniture (and some will remind you of your grandmother’s house) look modern and hip for 2017?
Here are our tips:
Reupholster…everything. Yes, take time and get new fabrics to reupholster these beautiful pieces. Don’t get stuck with the worn silks, damasks, and velvets of yesteryear. Take time to find a great piece on consignment, and run (don’t walk) to the nearest fabric store to invest in a modern, high quality fabric. We guarantee you’ll spend less than a new sofa.
Antique stores and consignment stores are your friend. Victorian pieces of furniture can be found a AMAZING prices at these places. In fact, many people have probably donated and tossed some dope pieces to be replaced for mid-century furniture instead.
Wallpaper. For our client, they have some awesome architectural details in their house that we are going to be accentuating with beautiful paint (think a pale blue on the ceilings to give the illusion of a renaissance fresco and fresh white on the other walls), and a botanical wallpaper to bring it back to 2017. It’s so fresh and so clean, and we’re super pumped.
What do you do when you have to design around an oversized piece of art or furniture? Well, we decide to go bold. Much like we did with this BOLD BESPOKE mood board for a client. This design was for an office, and an oversized painting of Clint. How do you make it the centerpiece…
Let's get inspired by them Alps! Clean lines, hygge (hoo-ga: cozy) and pine (all day), create the ultimate alpine attitude for this mood board Monday. It feels like it's time to take a trip down the bunny slopes, or at least sit fireside with a (spiked) hot chocolate! That's impeccable.
