Our NEST: Christmas at our house.Design
Here is a tour of our nest.
As promised we said we would show you bits of our own home through the years and during the holidays or special events. We don’t offer these peeks into our lives to brag or gloat over our fantastic life. We do so to show how even as designers we often don’t get to our own home.
Like the roofer with the leaky roof, or the hairstylist who just can’t find the time to hide their gray roots…we often spend so much time with other homes we simply lose time to give to ourselves.
Besides we use our home as our test laboratory and basically don’t ever have it too finished as we plot and plan a new idea. Running your own business especially during the holidays is tough. Figuring out how to make time your own festivities and how to make a buck is not for the faint of heart. Yet like any boss lady we wouldn’t have it any other way.
This year we literally spent an afternoon collecting from our backyard and filling urns, tabletops and mantels with things from our yard. Fallen birch, berries, and evergreen can be the most simple and traditional. add your bulbs and lights and you’ve got your home ready for Christmas in no time.
We also like to fill our homemade projects, sunroom windows filled with snowflakes cut from magazines or table tops filled with trees made by Prudence and Odette last year. Beautiful and meaningful…isn’t that what it is all about.
Most of everyone adds a wreath to their front door but have you ever considered putting one on your interior doors. Go for the same one everywhere or maybe something different on each…we love to decorate interior doors mush like a front door.
We think this one for Prudence and Odette’s room is a perfect choice.
Remember Christmas isn’t about being perfect. It is about showing how much you care. Caring is in the littlest details. Things that bring a smile. Celebrating family and friends.
This all begins at home.
Even our stair squirrel gets a spring of green.
Here is what our home looks like most days. All worth it…but never easy. Gotta love it.
Hope we inspired you to deck your halls and give your home and loved ones a home filled with cheer. If you need a little help, give us a jingle.
