Interview: Blayne MacCauley ArtistInspire
Want to know about someone awesome?
We want to introduce you to Blayne. Last year, we attended the Design Influencers Conference in Atlanta, and received an email to attend an artists studio. And then it was all over. She had us at sparkling rose.
But seriously, she wowed us with her beautiful artwork, and bubbly personality. It didn’t hurt that she also went to college in Boston, has a penchant for color, and marries the abstract with folk art. We bought a piece of artwork from her that night, and have continued to buy and share her work.
So, today, we share our quick Q+A with you…it’s fun (remember this one from our favorite organizer?) and we know you’ll fall in love with her too. Plus, we have a few pieces of her art you must have.
Blayne Beacham Macauley is an artist and photographer whose works have garnered international acclaim, and have been featured in galleries, exhibitions, show houses, and in print and television media. Since 2007 Blayne has participated in more than twenty-two gallery and museum shows; multiple juried exhibitions; and five renowned show houses. Blayne’s work has been featured in Traditional Home, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, Southern Living, Domino, and on HGTV. She studied studio art and photography at Boston University, and oil painting in Venice, Italy. A native of Atlanta, GA where she resides with her family.
How did you start your day today?
My daughter came into my room at 6:30. I went and got a cup of coffee, got back in bed, and we snuggled while we watched an episode of The Great British Baking Show.
If you could spend your day with anyone in the world, who would that be?
Probably my dad, who passed away a few years ago.
Sweet or Savory?
What are the three things you can’t live without?
My husband, my kids, and natural light!
Define yourself in three words:
Visual, loyal, determined.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Snuggling in the bed with my kids and watching TV. Also, vodka sodas.
First concert you attended?
Garth Brooks in 1996
What book did you recently finish?
I’ve read like 15 Elin Hildenbrand books in a row.
If you could switch lives with one person, who would it be?
I think about that a lot and usually end up deciding I’d stay who I am. If I HAD to switch I’d go with Annie Leibovitz
What’s the one thing you’ve always wanted to try, but been to scared to do?
What do you have in your purse right now?
Credit cards, face lotion, airborn, kids crayons, and a golf glove (never know when you might need it!).
What do you usually eat for breakfast?
Coffee with cream. I’m not a breakfast person.
Where was the best vacation you’ve ever taken?
Banff, Canada or Cumberland Island, Ga.
What’s one city you’ve dreamed of traveling to?
How do you start your day?
Coffee, shower, packing lunches, carpool.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
It’s more my motto I guess, but I try to do one thing every day that my future self will thank me for doing.
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?
Went to Venice to study oil painting alone for 5 weeks at 17.
Early riser or Night owl?
Dogs or cats?
Yoga or Crossfit?
Yoga – if forced!
Disneyland or camping?
Camping… but I’ll go to a lot of lengths to see my kids really happy… so if that’s Disney then I’d be happy there too!
Ocean or lake?
Lake – but I do like finding shells at the beach!
Coffee or tea?
Both! I love a hot cup of tea at night!
